Just installed furnace two weeks ago. It is much louder than my 30 year old GE furnace that got replaced. You can hear it go on to low speed then high speed. Sometimes it is quiet but not when it is working hard. It sounds like there is a loud portable air cleaner in the bedroom with me.

After 4-6 weeks I will compare gas usage to last year. That will be the real test.

I replaced my 20 year old Lennox Whisper Quiet with the SLP98UH this week. I cannot yet rate long term reliability or operating cost but this furnace works as advertised as far as eliminating cold and hot spots in the house. Amazing! I am a little dissapointed that my dealer did not supply the iComfort WiFi thermostat but I’m not sure how much I would use it anyway.

I was a bit surprised to see the intake and exhaust flue is mounted on the side of the house rather than vertically to the roof but it makes a lot more sense having a short flue run, and the outside vent looks great next to our dryer vent.

All in all I am very happy with this unit, albeit a bit pricey but I wouldn’t have anything but a Lennox.

We bought a Lennox SLP98UH series variable capacity gas furnace December 2011. In the past 2 years, we have had 3 service calls for having no heating. This was the top of the line Lennox model, so it was very expensive. The problem was intermittent so the error codes do not help unless the tech actually is there when the problem is present. First they replaced the Pressure Switch (apparently they are having recurring problems with these so that is the first thing they replace). Then the next time they ordered a new igniter (thinking that it was not firing). Finally a tech was present when the problem was existing and checked the gas supply and found the real problem – variable capacity gas solenoid valve was not opening. When they finally replaced the variable capacity gas solenoid valve assembly, it works fine now.
I still like the unit based on efficiency and quietness, but there may be a problematic issue with the variable capacity gas solenoid valve assembly – Lennox needs to evaluate for possible recall issue.

Best furnace ever! My home has never been more comfortable! Proper installation and set up is the key.
I have had this furnace running in my home since October 2013 with no problems or issues.
The Icomfort Thermostat is very easy to use and set different programming.
I upgraded from a single stage 92% furnace and still saved money on heating!
The variable capacity output never overheats or underheats the house. Comfort is constant from mild temps to the bitter frozen cold weather (40 F to -40F!).
Highly recommend this furnace to anyone who wants the best comfort and product. Just make sure that the heating contractor you use is very reputable and knows how to install these properly!
